‘Standing Horses’ Exhibition”
An exhibition titled Standing Horses by the artist-sculptor Mönkhör Erdenebayar has recently opened at the Khaan Gallery and is now accessible to the public.
M. Erdenebayar is among the contemporary artists shaping Mongolia’s visual arts. In his work, the horse recurs not merely as a domestic animal, but as a symbolic representation of Mongolian thought and consciousness. Through this, he bridges Mongolia’s traditions and culture with modern society, using the language of art to delineate the boundaries and connections between past and present.
In an Asian art journal, his work has been praised as a powerful voice that knits together Mongolian tradition and the multiplicity of social realities. For Mongolians, the horse holds profound spiritual, ritual, and cultural significance — and Erdenebayar’s artwork is noted for skillfully translating that unique cultural essence into a contemporary artistic idiom.
His work stands out not only for its technique and color composition, but also in its experimentation with novel materials, forms, and spatial relationships. He incorporates natural elements and wooden materials into his creations — an approach that functions both as artistic inquiry and as philosophical expression. Erdenebayar maintains high standards for his work, which is evident in the quality and depth of his art.
While his pieces may appear simple at first glance, they often conceal deeper philosophical meaning, intricate symbolism, and emotional resonance when examined attentively. His works have been displayed not only in Mongolia, but in solo and international joint exhibitions in the USA, India, Thailand, Singapore, China, South Korea, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Cambodia, among others — a distinction that underscores Mongolia’s place in contemporary art.
The Standing Horses exhibition will run through September 29 at the Khaan Gallery, located on the 3rd floor of the Khaan Bank Tower. It is open on business days from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with free admission. We warmly invite all art enthusiasts to attend.
