Overview of the fair
If a visitor comes to Hong Kong in this cool March and wishes to catch a glimpse of the international art scene, he will probably go directly to the Art Basel Hong Kong. It is marked on every tourist map and guide, along with the advertisement banners across the city, the venue is located at the harbour in Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The show offers world's leading 229 galleries from 35 countries. This venue of contemporary art's and galleries offer range of major artist's of 20th and 21st century that are fascinated by the phenomenons of circulation, and exchange of the transfer.
At the fair itself (HKCEC), where the world’s top galleries set up their booth, works covering Time Waterfall include one of Tatsuo Miyajima’s giant largescale light installation, across the entire facade of HK's 490 meter high ICC Tower, each night from 21-26 March.
The fair’s consists of eight different sector's including:
Galleries - Art Basel's core sector presents 187 of the world's leading Modern and Contemporary art galleries showing 20th and 21st century works.
Insights - 28 galleries from Asia and the Asia-Pacific region offer solo shows and curatorial projects developed specifically for Art Basel.
Discoveries - A strong showcase of emerging stars from across the world with solo and two person exhibitions are presented by 24 galleries.
Encounters - 16 large scale sculptures and installations offer visitors art that transcends traditional art-fair stands. Encounters is curated for the second time by Alexie Glass-Kantor, director of Artspace, Sydney, Australia.
Conversations - the series offers a platform for dynamic dialogs between prominent member's of the international artworld.
Salon - program is an platform for short presentations. often informal such as artist talks, panels, lectures and performances with a range of speakers including artists, curators, academics, collectors, architects, art lawyers, critics and other cultural players.
Film - Curated by Li Zhenhua, director of Beijing Art Lab, Film sector presents 67 short films and 5 special screenings by and about artists. Screenings are held in theatre 2 at the HKCEC and the Agnes b. Cinema at the HK Arts Centre.
Magazine - Art publications from around the world display their magazines in single-magazine stands or the collective booth.
