Nathalie Daoust - China Dolls

12 - 26 June, 2018
Art Space 976

The Canadian artist Nathalie Daoust is perhaps best known for her photography of themed rooms of the Carlton Arms Hotel in New York. The world in Nathalie's photography is not a strictly calculated and rational one, and it is impossible to figure out her system, because there isn't one. The artist works by eye and feeling, basing her decisions on intuitive and improvisational moves in a game, which is related to the floating unstableness in contemporary art. The above reaches new clarity in Nathalie's photography documentation of Chinese woman and their role in society, it was the series of work exhibited in China where it was printed in one thousand tiles and laid over the gallery space. The colour in these works shows the process of her experimentation with light in the darkroom. Nathalie has plans for her next project with Mongolia, her show China Dolls will be exhibited from 12-26 June at 976 Art Space.
