documenta 14
08 April- 16 July, 2017
Athens, Greece

documenta 14's exhibition in Athens opens today

Today, on April 8, 2017, documenta 14 opens its exhibition in Athens. In Kassel, the inauguration is marked with dense white smoke billowing from the top of Fridericianum's Zwehrenturm: the work Expiration Movement by artist Daniel Knorr, connecting Kassel, the home town of documenta, with Athens. Extending over the city in more than 40 different public institutions, squares, cinemas, university locations, and libraries, over 160 international artists will show works newly conceived for documenta 14.
The main exhibition venues will be open Tuesdays—Sundays, 11 am–9 pm, and Thursdays 11 am–11 pm. Please find individual opening hours and dates during Easter as well as ticket information on the documenta 14 website. We are also pleased to share the inauguration week’s program with you on our website and warmly invite you to attend. Please note that some events have limited capacity. Information about the artists and venues of documenta 14 can also be found online.
The two main publications, the documenta 14: Daybook and The documenta 14 Reader, are available in Athens as of today as well as via the documenta 14 online shop. The documenta 14 Reader, a critical anthology exploring issues of economy, language, and the coloniality of power; and the documenta 14: Daybook, devoted to the commissioned artists in the documenta 14 project.
Information material about documenta 14 and the daily program of events can be found in the Press and Information Center at Mourouzi 16 in 10674 Athens as well as in the bimonthly documenta 14 newspaper Public Paper that is available free of charge in all exhibition venues and press and visitor centers in Kassel and Athens. The first edition was published on April 7, 2017, and the second issue, spanning both hosting cities, will be published on April 21.

Ariuntugs Tserenpil, Act (2013), digital video, color, sound, 3:25 min.

It is with great pleasure that i write to introduce artist Ariuntugs Tserenpil for the 14th documenta in Athens, Greece and Kassel, Germany. Ariuntugs Tserenpil was selected by a committee who felt that his video works would add new vision to the documenta 14. It is our debut from Mongolia at the documenta 14, that is vital catalyst to facilitate and encourage international dialogue. And we are delighted to present his work at this year's documenta.
